Oh for gods sake CBS, its his show he can play what he likes. Not everyone gets to hear their voice on the radio/tv ever so why should you just because you send a comment into DSC always get it played?

The strange sounding podcast from Wired is because it’s being read by a “professional voiceover” company, that focuses on converting text to voice. So, they try to make their reading sound more dramatic and exciting. It reminds me of the narrator for old public service films from the 1950’s for some reason.
Stern winds is a sailing thing, a good stern wind makes your sail boat go faster.
It’s sort of the maritime equivalent of ‘tail winds’.
A simulacrum is copy, image, representation, etc of something. Usually not in the most flattering sense

Is it just me, or does at least the music, promos and stuff like that in DSC sound some kind of garbled? Like a real old weak Walkman… the german term for that is “leiern” – frequency shift through unstable speed… Adam: could you try to playback a mp3 with some test-tone (sine) through your setup like the usual files? I’m really getting mad from hearing this. apart from that, like your show.
Nice to hear my voice on the DSC. There is no dust in your mixer Adam, my recording was made on a gen 3 iPod with a cheap shitty mic. My wife is imprest that I’m on the DSC, so you know what I’m going to do tonight. Right.

Remember the PowerBook G4 defect page? Well, its’ been updated to reflect that Apple has fixed the bug — http://www.powerbookdefect.info/
Adam mentioned it in today’s podcast. While I am glad that they fixed it, even though I never owned that particular PowerBook, I would hope that Apple will in future provide better updates that they’re working on things as well giving a timeframe, e.g. will be fixed in the next update to Mac OS X coming out in 2-3 weeks (for example). This took way too long, but I am glad they fixed it and have come clean at least.

If you can command the ear of Apple, could you ask them to add a playback speed control to iTunes?
Windows Media and Quicktime both offer speed control. When listening to a lot of podcasts, listening to them at 1.4x speed can increase the amount of podcasts consumed while impacting the comprehension very little. Podcasts like yours with the music and such can be adversly effected by increased playback speed.
I use a iAudio U2 MP3 player and it offers playback control – which I even find useful for music…soome music is just too slow. One interesting note is that Windows Media somehow speeds play without effecting the pitch…so you can play it fast without it sounding like munchkins.

I am pissed off to hear they are going to charge 6.95 for four shows! What a ripoff! They are good, but not that bloody good. I await your comments on your show man.

Frank, Adam reported the song of mine that he played a while back but it took him a week to get around to it, so check again later. Maybe the procrastination fairy visited him?

) one day praising Adam, next day cursing, swearing and insulting him, and so it goes on and on and on . . . vaguely seem to remember you vowing not to post hear ever again, guess we all knew that was just too much to hope for.
That is a good idea: while you can control the speed of things like audiobooks on the iPod itself, you can’t do the same in iTunes. So if you’re listening to a podcast on your computer with iTunes, there is no way to speed it up.
A little known secret is that you can send Apple feedback and feature requests. And from what I am told, they are all read, though obviously that doesn’t mean that every feature request will be implemented.

If many people request something, generally it will be added. It can take a couple of months though as they have to rigourously test everything, and can’t just put it out there like shareware authors can.
And no, I do not currently own a Mac. That being said, I have my eyes on a MacBook Pro.

Wired News is a different company from Wired Magazine so that maybe the case of the difference in quality that you have commented. Wired online proprierties were sold to Lycos by Louis Rosseto and the other owners of Wired before the internet bubble burst. You can’t tell the difference if you subscribe via iTunes but if you go to the wired.com site you will notice a Lycos top bar.
